The collection of 'Experiments' allow youngsters of all ages to get hands-on and explore how music works, such as sound, rhythm, melody and more. The “experiments” featured in Chrome Music Lab explain and demonstrate concepts like sound, rhythm and melody, using visuals to communicate the concepts in a fashion that’s particularly easy to understand. Last year, the API was used to add MIDI support to browsers, meaning that users are now able to connect directly to devices like synthesizers and drum machines via the web. The project is essentially a set of different showcases for the Web Audio API, a powerful set of programming tools used for processing and synthesizing audio within web applications. Chrome Music Lab was designed to coincide with the Music in Our Schools Month initiative, though we’re betting it’ll hold plenty of appeal for mature-age electronic music fans, as it features a set of rather cool, very visual experiments that demonstrate the nuts and bolts of how music works. Electronic music is all about the interaction of music and technology, and this month, tech goliath Google is unleashing a few of their own related experiments.
